CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police say crews have recovered the body of a 4-year-old boy who fell down a hole in a Carlsbad neighborhood.

State police spokesman Robert McDonald confirmed the body is Samuel Jones.

Crews reached the boy about 7 a.m. Monday from a 30-foot hole next door to the boy's home. Carlsbad police were able to positively identify Samuel.

He was reported missing Saturday evening, which prompted officers to launch a search and issue an Amber Alert for the boy.

At about 7 a.m. Sunday, officers located the child in the hole.

Medical personnel determined the conditions at the bottom of the hole were not survivable due to the percentage of oxygen being extremely low and the low temperatures at that depth.
