NIAMEY, Niger (AP) - The spokesman for Niger's government says Moammar Gadhafi's son is 'en route' to Niger's capital of Niamey.
Morou Amadou, who is also the country's minister of justice, said Monday that al-Saadi Gadhafi entered the West African nation in a convoy through the desert separating Libya from Niger and was not detected for some time. He says a military patrol came across the vehicles on Sunday in the Air region which stretches across the country's north.
He said the son and the other members of the convoy were asked to hand over their arms.
He says it is not clear when he will arrive in the capital or whether he was stopping along the way.
The toppled ruler's son is the latest member of Gadhafi's inner circle to seek refuge in Niger.
