CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Tylar Dobbins died suddenly at an emergency room in China last week after doctors refused him treatment because he didn't have money.
"He's sitting in front of them throwing up blood. They wouldn't touch him," said his mother Paula Kemp.
His best friend Kody Yates watched it all happen. WINK News talked to him over the telephone from China.
"Everybody's trying to work together to bring him home," he said.
Kody is fluent in Mandarin and he's been talking with Chinese forwarders to figure out why the Dobbins family has to pay $20,000 to get the 19 year-old back home.
Kody's family has traveled in China before and says the forwarders are running a scam.
"They know they've got an American, they've got a young American, and they think the people will just do whatever it takes," said Don Yates.
Kody says he's not leaving until his friend's body is on a plane back home to Cape Coral.
"It's my main priority right now. I told his mother I'm going to do whatever I have to do to make it happen."
