BENTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say five people have been killed and nine injured in a crash involving a farm tractor and two other vehicles in New York's rural Finger Lakes region.

Yates County Sheriff Ronald Spike says about 15 people were involved in the crash 43 miles southeast of Rochester. He says five people were pronounced dead at the scene and nine more were taken to hospitals.

The crash happened when a car tried to pass the tractor on a curve. It was heading in the opposite direction as the van, which carried 15 Mennonites. It glanced off the van and sent it under the tractor.

At least four people were entangled in the wreckage before they were removed.
