NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Authorities say an Amtrak train collided with a dump truck in Maine, and both caught fire.

Patricia Quinn from the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority says she believes the passengers are safe. It's not clear how many people were aboard the train or in the truck when they crashed in North Berwick on Monday.

York County Emergency Management Spokeswoman Pam Tourangeau (toh-RON-joh) says emergency officials are still assessing the situation. Fire departments are at the scene.

The train was part of Amtrak's Downeaster service. It connects Portland, Maine, to Boston.

North Berwick is about 40 miles south of Portland.
