RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A possible tuberculosis case has prompted Virginia officials to lock down the housing unit of a prison in Richmond County.

State Department of Corrections spokesman Larry Traylor said Wednesday that an inmate was isolated at Haynesville Correctional Center's medical unit on June 23 after showing symptoms of the illness. Prison officials contacted the Virginia Department of Health, and face masks were issued to staff and inmates at the locked-down unit.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that state health officials will conduct mass testing. Traylor says if no cases are detected the Department of Corrections hopes to have the unit operating normally before the holiday weekend for family visitation.

Haynesville is a medium- and low-security prison that holds about 1,150 inmates
