NEW YORK (AP) - A Portuguese model has signaled he plans an insanity defense against charges of castrating and killing a TV journalist in a New York City hotel.
Renato Seabra's (say-AH'-brahz) lawyers filed a notice Friday that he plans to argue he was so mentally ill that he didn't know what he was doing was wrong. If the defense succeeds, he could be acquitted and sent to a mental hospital.
The 21-year-old Seabra is charged with murder in Carlos Castro's Jan. 7 death. The 65-year-old Castro was found dead, naked and bloodied in a room they were sharing.
Seabra is a former contestant on a Portuguese talent-search show. Castro was a TV personality and writer.
