NEW YORK (AP) - Federal officials in New York say seven people are charged with conspiring to aid the Taliban. They say two of the defendants agreed to sell missiles.

he surface-to-air missiles were to be used to protect Taliban-owned heroin laboratories against U.S. attack in Afghanistan.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in New York and Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator Michele M. Leonhart announced Monday that the charges had been unsealed.

They said that, beginning last summer, the defendants communicated with confidential sources working with the DEA. It says the defendants believed those sources represented the Taliban.
