NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a woman shot her 12-year-old son and her elderly mother before turning the gun on herself last week.
Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga ruled the deaths of 40-year-old Ljuba (L'YOO-bah) Novosel, 12-year-old Tomislav Novosel, and 81-year-old Anka Denk, a double homicide-suicide after an autopsy Saturday. Noga says he believes the deaths occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight Wednesday at their home in New Castle, about 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Ljuba Novosel, born in Zagreb, Croatia, had a nursing degree from Slippery Rock University and renewed her registered nurse's license in October. A relative says her seventh-grade son would have been 13 on Feb. 4, loved to play baseball and served as an altar boy in a local parish.
