LOS ANGELES (AP) - One person is dead and one is missing as another winter storm sweeps through California.
A person camping at a wildlife preserve near Santa Rosa, about 50 miles north of San Francisco, died when heavy winds and rain toppled a tree onto a tent.
Blizzard conditions are hampering the search for a missing snowboarder in the Sierra Nevada. The 25-year-old became separated from friends at the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort yesterday afternoon.
State officials also say Highway 1 is closed at several points along the coast because of flooding or rock slides. And a quarter-mile of State Route 184 near Bakersfield is covered by up to 6 inches of rain.
The storm comes just days after a week of wet weather saturated parts of the state. Authorities are keeping an eye on areas prone to mudslides.
