RUTLAND, Mass. (AP) - The father of a Massachusetts college student who died in the Haiti earthquake says he's successfully found some land where he plans to build an orphanage named for his daughter.
Britney Gengel of Rutland was on a humanitarian mission with other students from Lynn University in Florida when the earthquake hit in January. She was missing for 33 days before her body was recovered.
Len Gengel returned from Haiti on Sunday after locating a 2-acre site in Grand Goave, where he plans to build the Be Like Brit orphanage.
Her father says she texted the family just hours before the earthquake to say she wanted to establish an orphanage.
Gengel says he wants to start construction in December and wants to open on Jan. 12, 2012, the two-year anniversary of the quake.
