BAGHDAD (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden says all the main political blocs must be included in the new Iraqi government for it to succeed.
Biden was speaking Sunday to a room of Iraqi political leaders during a visit to Iraq designed to help bring about an end to the political impasse gripping the country since the election.
The vice president called on Iraqi leaders assembled at the U.S. Embassy to "finish what they started" and form a government.
Biden met earlier with the two main rivals for leadership, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and former premier Ayad Allawi.
Al-Maliki's State of Law coalition narrowly lost out to Allawi's Iraqiya bloc, but neither side gained the 163-seat majority needed to govern outright, resulting in a drawn-out negotiating period.
