CHICOPEE, MA - Authorities say a Massachusetts man offered to give his 3-month-old daughter to a maintenance man outside a gas station convenience store in exchange for a pair of 40-ounce beers.
Chicopee police say 24-year-old Matthew Brace of Northampton made the offer on Monday, outside the Pride Gas Station on Burnett Road in Chicopee, MA. The maintenance man called police, who found Brace hiding with the girl behind a trash container.
Police say the mother, 31-year-old Wendy Arsenault, was inside the store and didn't realize what Brace was doing.
When police arrived on scene, they took the baby into custody and sent the parents back home. They live at the EconoLodge next to the gas station as part of the state sponsored motel program.
Brace was not immediately charged; he was issued a court summons. Police say the baby is in good condition.
