MIAMI (AP) - Mike Redmond is back with the Miami Marlins and eager to be remembered for more than "the nudity incident," as team president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest calls it.
At Redmond's introductory news conference Friday, the new manager recalled taking batting practice naked in an indoor cage to help the Marlins shake a slump when he was their backup catcher in 2003. The ploy worked, and the Marlins went on to win the World Series.
Redmond pledged to keep his clothes on as manager. He spent the past two years managing Class A teams in the Toronto Blue Jays' system and accepted a three-year contract Thursday. He replaces Ozzie Guillen, fired last week after one season in Miami.
Redmond becomes the Marlins' fifth manager since mid-2010.
