LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Florida Gulf Coast University is riding March madness momentum. The men's basketball team made school history over the weekend when they won the Atlantic Sun Championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament, and now many believe it could have a long-term impact on the college.
More than 13,000 students study at FGCU, which is up about 800 from Fall 2011.
Some students say the tournament will have a trickle-down effect on next year's enrollment numbers.
"Sports is a huge thing especially when it comes to college life. Kids really come in and they get into the spirit and they body paint and things like that, so everyone's looking forward to that when they come to college. It's part of the mentality," freshman Khilel Dykes said.
Students have planned several watch parties for "Selection Sunday," which is when the brackets and seeds are picked.
You can watch the announcement on WINK-TV starting at 6:00 PM Sunday.
