ESTERO, Fla. - The FGCU women's basketball team will get to stay as close to home as possible for its first trip to the NCAA tournament. Monday night, the Eagles learned they will play their first round game in Tallahassee. Surrounded by hundreds of their most loyal fans, the Eagles watched the nationally televised announcement at Alico Arena. The crowd erupted when Florida Gulf Coast finally appeared on the screen, sending the Eagles to the state capital.
FGCU (29-2), the Atlantic Sun regular season and tournament champion enters the tournament as a No. 12 seed and will face Atlantic 10 regular season champion, the No. 5 seed, St. Bonaventure (29-3). The game will be played Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee.
