JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend has been sentenced to death.
Justin McMillian was sentenced Friday.
Authorities said Danielle De-Ann Stubbs was shot twice at her Jacksonville home in January 2009. McMillian testified that he fired two shots in a dark bedroom after Stubbs told him she had an abortion.
Several days after Stubbs' death, officers were following McMillian as part of the homicide investigation when McMillian reportedly shot at the police. He did not hit any of the officers but he was shot several times by police.
McMillian was also sentenced to 30 years in prison Friday for the attempted murder of the police officer who helped capture him.
The 26-year-old McMillian was convicted in June.
