CAPE CORAL, Fla.- “That was a miracle. Yes, that was a miracle. Miracles happen every day.”

A 4-year-old boy is alive, after his mother accidentally ran him over with the family minivan. Friday, a day after it happened, the family is telling WINK News their story.

The bruises and scrapes on little Juancito’s head are his only sign of injury.

“Just, thank you Jesus. Thank God,” said his mother Esther Salas-Fuentes.

His family is thankful he is alive after a terrifying incident Thursday afternoon. His mother tells only WINK News, she accidentally drove over him with the family minivan, after driving back home, from an errand.

“I didn’t see him at all. Just the shoes. So I thought, ok, he left his shoes out. And I proceeded to drive in,” she explained. “I don’t know if he came from the side of the car, or he was already inside the garage area, the car port area? And I felt something on the front right wheel. I was just hysterical at that point.”

First responders rushed the little boy to Lee Memorial Hospital, where later, his family heard the incredible good news. “They called me a short while later to say that he was ok,” said Salas-Fuentes.

“Your immediate reaction is a guilty feeling. But then you start praying. And your faith kicks in. And you just know that God is always with you no matter what.”

“We’re very thankful. And this is like, the greatest gift that we could be given at this time. We are very thankful.”

The family is working to get the little boy to a specialist.

Meanwhile, the Department of Children and Families is investigating, as is procedure for these cases.  A spokeswoman tells WINK News these cases usually stay open for a few weeks, as they interview the family and neighbors.
