FORT MYERS, Fla.- Local veterans are displaying their artwork at the Sydney and Berne Davis Art Center. The two week exhibit features 70 works by 13 artists. They depict patriotism, and the loss of comrades in combat.

“This is a very powerful show. I had a grandfather and great uncle in World War II, and I can see some of what they experienced.  There is a lot of emotion in these pieces,” said Assistant Director Devin Parker.

“It’s a great therapy for the veterans to releas what is deep inside. There is a hidden tension that artists can release through their work, and you see it here,” said Frank DiMaria, an artist who served in the Army in the 1980s.

The exhibit opens at 6 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the art center.  That coincides with Art Walk in the city, and the exhibit also is timed to coincide with Veterans Day next Tuesday.
