CAPE CORAL, Fla. A Cape Coral man has been arrested and faces a second-degree murder charge after the victim of a Monday morning shooting died, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

Ryan Doyon, 27, opened fire at 9:35 a.m. at his home on the 1900 block of Cornwallis Parkway, police said. The victim’s identity was not released pending next-of-kin notification.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to police.

No relationship between Doyon and the victim existed before Monday, and the shooting wasn’t in self-defense, police said.

Bullet holes were found in surrounding homes, but no one else was hurt in the shooting, Cape Coral Police Cpl. Philip Mullen said.

Doyon used a high-powered rifle, according to police. It’s unclear how many shots were fired.

Authorities emphasized that the shooting did not involve an officer.

Doyon was being booked into Lee County Jail on Monday afternoon.
