CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Construction on the first of several community revitalization projects started today.

Neighbors say the Park Side community was hit hard by Hurricane Charley in 2004 and by the recession several years later.

County Commissioner Tricia Duffy was there to shovel the first scoop of earth.

Crews will build a multi-use pathway along Elkham Blvd.

The county is spending about $4.2 million for this pathway project.
