UPDATEl: Two northbound I-75 travel lanes at the mile marker 210 are now back open.

 

SARASOTA, Fla.- A big rig filled with fuel burst into flames today after it was involved in a multi-vehicle accident.

According to officials, the tractor trailer was traveling southbound in the center lane when it veered to the left crossing over the median and into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle came to a stop after colliding with the ditch and began leaking gasoline as a result of the accident.

The driver of the tanker, 71-year-old Thomas Grattan, was airlifted to a hospital.

Two northbound I75 travel lanes at the 210 mile marker are now back open.while crews clean up the mess that was left behind.

There were no other injuries reported.

Florida Highway Patrol officials says the highway could be closed until 8:00p.m tonight.
