PUNTA GORDA, Fla. A handyman has been arrested for allegedly cashing $14,600 in checks.

55-year-old Christopher Israel was hired by the victims to paint the interior of their residence while they were out of state.

66-year-old Shari Franklin and 81-year-old William Franklin said they provided Israel a key to their house.

According the victims, they received a call from their bank in Indiana stating that their checking account was overdrawn.

Officials say the victims learned a total of eight checks ranging in amounts from $1,200 to $5,500 had been cashed at a Bank of America in Charlotte County.

Each of the checks was written to "Chris Israel."

Israel was identified by the Franklin's through a photo line up and authorities say he was also identified by a Bank of America employee as the individual who cashed the checks.
