CAPE CORAL, Fl.- The teenage bicyclist involved in a traffic crash with a marked Lee County Sheriff's Office patrol car has died.

15-year-old Austin Dukette was riding his bike near the 600 block of Kismet Parkway West Friday morning, when a deputy hit him from behind.

Saturday afternoon, Tampa General Hospital confirmed the teen had died as a result of his injuries. WINK News spoke with a Brenden McCarthy, a friend of Dukette's.

"He was just like the coolest kid ever. He like loved music and he was really nice. He was a really good friend," McCarthy said. "We had a band together...I would go over there like once or twice a week and we would hang out and play music..Today is national Austin day. Everybody remember that."

Deputy Douglas Hood with the Lee County Sheriff's Office was driving the marked car when the accident happened. Saturday a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said they would not comment on the crash. The Cape Coral police department is leading the investigation. Saturday the department sent the below statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved during this tragic time," said Detective Sergeant Dana Coston.

Investigators are still waiting on an autopsy.
