CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A fly-over traffic study for a busy Lee County intersection is suspended. Today, the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization, known as the MPO, met to discuss the project on US 41 and Bonita Beach Road.

The MPO meets at Cape City Hall and is in charge of long range transportation planning. Today, they met to discuss one of the busiest intersections in all of Southwest Florida.

The state received $1 million from the federal goverment to conduct the study on how to move traffic better at that intersection. One option was a fly-over, but businesses feared consumers would drive right past them and that they would lose commerce. Residents also protested the possible overpass.

The MPO voted 10 to 4 to suspend any study. The city of Bonita Springs will conduct its own smaller study, which won't include the possibility of a fly-over.

Supporters of the fly-over are very disapointed, and say people will look back 10 years from now and wonder why the study wasn't done.
