FORT MYERS, Fla.- WINK News is hearing exclusively from the newspaper delivery man who was shot after he witnessed a robbery. The suspects shot him in the arm, the back, and even his face. But, despite what he went through, he was able to drive himself home and call 911.

"Very lucky, very lucky, lucky to be alive."

This newspaper delivery man is lucky to be alive. For his safety WINK News has chosen to keep his identity hidden.

"I thought I was dead, I thought I was going to die."

Last Monday, his early morning paper route put him in the wrong place at the wrong time. He witnessed this Circle K at Winkler and Evans Avenues being robbed.

"I pulled off to drop off some newspapers and as soon as I pulled up three guys walked out with guns and so I automatically took off...I got about three quarters of a mile down the road and they caught up with me."

The suspects spotted him and chased him down.

"Shot through the window first, which went through my cheek and one bullet hit the back of my van, the hole is still there, and then grazed my arm and my shoulder."

The first bullet hit his face.

We asked, "Did you feel the bullet go through your face?"

"Oh yeah! It went in my cheek, busted out a couple teeth and fragments went around my eye and I got a fragment in my nostril."

He says it's amazing he survived as bullets went through his van.

"I wasn't looking through the windshield and I almost ran into a tree."

But despite, the night at work that almost ended his life, just a week later, he's ready to get back on his route.

Now, he will go back to the doctors on Wednesday to have the fragments from the bullet in his face removed. It's important to note those robbers are still on the loose. WINK News checked with Fort Myers Police, but there are no new developments in this case.
