IMMOKALEE, Fla.- A two-vehicle crash with injuries on Corkscrew Rd. near State Road 82 sent one person to the hospital by helicopter this afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Nelson Elias Espinoza was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition after a head-on collision with a semi-truck.

The driver of the semi-truck, 54-year-old Miguel Sanchez DeNieto , sustained minor injuries.

According to the crash report, Espinoza left the roadway for an unknown reason and drove onto the grass shoulder. He then overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle.

The driver of the semi-truck steered to the right to avoid collision, but a crash was unavoidable. After collidign with the vehicle, the semi-truck jack-knifed on the grass shoulder.

Corkscrew Rd. has since reopened.
