CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Veterans in our area now have a new way to get around.

What started the donation of a van was a simple trip to the dentist. Sheriff Scott says the VA does not cover dental care for veterans after they leave the military, but there is a doctor in Miami who will help them. The only problem was that the veterans needed a way to get back and forth for appointments.

So that is when they reached out to the Sheriff's Office, seeing if they had a van the office could donate. And there was one with quite a bit of history.

"We have vans, of course with our jail operation transport vans, that we take inmates across the state, across town, in fact what's ironic is that this vehicle behind me for many years used to haul criminals, is now going to be hauling heroes," said Sheriff Scott.

Congressman Curt Clawson was also at the unveiling at Eco Park this morning. He said Congress can do a better job with the VA, so that one day veterans won't have to travel over two hours just for a trip to dentist.
