SARASOTA, Fla.- A small plane has crashed on the beach on Siesta Key, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

The pilot has been identified as 76-year-old Earle F. Swan, of Bradenton. His passenger, 51-year-old Martin S. Thomas, is from Cape Coral.

Swan was not injured, but Thomas was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with a minor laceration and was expected to be treated and released.

The plane, reported to be a “replica” WWII bi-plane, landed on the beach near the 7900 block of Sanderling Road after experiencing what the pilot said was engine problems. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has notified the FAA about the incident.
