JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing a childhood friend.
A judge sentenced 23-year-old Eric Eugene Fuller on Monday. A jury convicted him of second-degree murder last month.
Authorities say Fuller shot Carlton Derrick Hardaman in the head in February 2013 while both were in Fuller's car. The body was then dumped by the side of the road. Fuller was arrested after crashing a short time later in Nassau County.
Police previously described the shooting as drug-related.
The Florida Times-Union (http://goo.gl/1A5pIK ) reports that Fuller claimed during his trial that he was acting in self-defense, but the jury rejected that argument.
