BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- Two workers are safe after the scaffolding they were on went into a free fall, leaving them hanging in the air on Hickory Boulevard around 8:30 a.m.
Restoration crews working on the side of the building were up on the sixth floor when the lift system of the scaffolding they were on malfunctioned, causing one side to drop and one to stay in place. That left both workers hanging from their harnesses, but were pulled in through windows by other co-workers.
The Bonita Springs Fire Department was called out to rescue the workers, and also get the hazardous scaffolding off the building and lower it to ground safely.
"Fire crews made sure that rope harnesses were OK, then they put the employee on the rope, who typically run that system, and guided him through the process in lowering the scaffolding to the floor," said Joseph Daigle, Bonita Springs Fire Chief.
Both those workers are safe now. Their supervisor said they weren't injured, but they're being checked over as a precaution.
Work has been suspended until this scaffolding can be deemed safe again.
