CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A woman was transported to the hospital after driving her car into a canal on the 4200 block of Tropicana Pkwy. W. around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

She was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where her BAC was measured at .398, according to the accident report.

First responders found the vehicle partially submerged at the west end of the canal.

Witnesses said two men in a boat went to the woman's aid. They lifted her into their boat and took her across the canal for treatment of her injuries.

The investigation revealed the woman purposely drove into the canal with the intent to injure herself. Officers initiated a Baker Act and took her to Salus Care.
