CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Dozens of moms and babies at Cape Coral Hospital joined mothers around the world for the Global Big Latch-On event.

The event, which is taking place Friday in more than 100 countries, promotes the benefits of breastfeeding.

At 10:30am babies "latched on" to the mothers, and witnesses were on hand to count the number of mothers participating.

"Moms need to be able to feel comfortable to go out in public. I think with all the stigma that's around they are just not comfortable with it, and it's not fair," said mother Tanya Childress.

A total of 49 mothers breast-fed this morning at Cape Coral Hospital.

That number will be turned into the official Big Latch-On organizers, who will tally up the numbers taken from around the world.
