FORT MYERS, Fla -- WINK News caught up with freshman US Congressman Curt Clawson this weekend, just days after a major mistake during a Capitol Hill committee meeting made national news.

His Oops started with the words, "I am familiar with your country, I love your country."

That was Curt Clawson speaking to Congressional witnesses Nisha Biswal and Arun Kumar, who Clawson believed were member of India's foreign committee.

The pair looked Indian, and had Indian names, but they work for the US, as senior advisors in the US State Department, and Commerce Department.

The Miami Herald called it, Clawson's Flor-DUH moment.

"And I understand the complications of so many languages, and so many cultures, and so many

histories, all rolled up in one," said Clawson in the meeting.

While the room held its breath, Arun Kumar chuckled, but Nisha Biswal was gracious, a classy response to Clawson.

The freshman Congressman had made a rookie mistake, and I had no idea who he was talking to.

WINK News caught up with Clawson, at the backpack giveaway at Harborside in Fort Myers.

Clawson told us, "I'd say it's an airball from the foul line, and a blooper. Somebody wrote me an email and said Flori-DUH. It's one of my more silly mistakes, I apologized to both of them, and anybody that I might have offended.

I'm on top of current affairs normally. That was a blunder. And certainly something I apologize for, and take full responsibility for as well. It's a big job, Congress, Washington, representing the 19th district and every comment, every decision is under scrutiny. There's a lot to learn."
