LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Spirit Airlines flight 220 has landed safely after experiencing hydraulic problems at RSW.
According to the Port Authority, Airbus 319 took off from Southwest Florida International Airport at 11:47 this morning and was headed to Chicago, but was diverted back due to these issues.
Spirit Airlines spokesperson Paul Berry told WINK News that shortly after take-off, the captain of flight 220 got an indication of a hydraulic issue. Though he felt he could safely land the plane, out of an abundance of caution he decided to turn back.
The passengers were informed.
The plane landed without incident and taxied back to the gate on its own power.
Passenger Bryan Cori told WINK News the plane was smoking and shaking. Cori said the replacement plane to Chicago arrived to take the passengers around 5:30 p.m.
