NAPLES, Fla.- Naples Police Sergeant Amy Young has been released from Lee Memorial Hospital after a domestic dispute with her co-worker, 37-year-old Luis Monroig, in the home that they shared, back in early July. Officer Monroig died at the hospital from injuries sustained during the dispute. 

Although Sergeant Young has left the hospital, the Naples Police Department says she will not be returning to her home in Estero at this time.

The following is a statement was released by Sgt. Young and her family.

“At this time our family is grieving for everyone involved in what we consider to be a very sad and tragic event. Many lives have been affected and there are many that need time to heal. Our thoughts and prayers are with David [Luis Monroig], his three wonderful children and everyone else in his family. We appreciate everyone who has reached out with their support, love and kindness. At this time, it is our request that Amy is given the privacy she needs to recover.”

The extent of Sergeant Young’s injuries remain unknown.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the event remains ongoing.
