CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- A crane that fell onto power lines near US 41 and Harbor Blvd. this afternoon has been lifted off the lines. The crane caused a large power outage to the area.

Traffic was also shut down on US 41 for hours, but has since re-opened.

Power was briefly knocked out power to many traffic lights along the US 41 corridor.

Nobody was injured, but the power outage affected several businesses and residences along US 41 and the paralleling access roads. Power has since been restored, but could be out again as repairs are being made.

FPL will be replacing some of the lines. Crews could be on the scene until 3:00 a.m.

Though the cause is still under investigation, it appears that the ground gave way beneath the crane.
