Bonita Springs, FL.- A brush fire in Bonita Springs sparked by lightning endangered homes and a church Sunday afternoon.

The fire started around 3:45 p.m. Fire fighters told WINK News the brush fire burned two acres, endangering homes in the area of Matheson Avenue and Terry Street. Fire fighters were able to put the fire out in less than a half hour.

Jason Gunkle was visiting family from Georgia when the lightning struck his in-laws' home. Ironically, Gunkle was a fire fighter nearly a decade ago, so he jumped into action.

"[It] brought back memories," Gunkle said. "We went out there with some garden hoses...[It] got real close to his house. But thankfully they got here in time and put a little more water on it than we had."

Gunkle's 16 year-old son also stepped into action helping his dad.

Fire fighters told WINK News the fire did not damage any structures.
