COLLIERCOUNTY, Fla.- Florida Highway Patrol said a serious accident involving at least one car and possibly a RV has shutdown the northbound lanes of I-75, near the Broward and Collier county line.

FHP has confirmed the person who died was an 8 year-old. A second child was transported to the hospital.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. Pictures from a WINK News crew on scene show a large white SUV flipped upside down in the shoulder lane. A RV appeared to also be part of the accident.

WINK News Reporter Therese O'Shea was stuck in the traffic and said she was stopped for at least 45 minutes due to both lanes being closed. Around 2:30 she reported the left lane had reopened but traffic was still heavy.
