COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- "He presented himself, asking the neighbor wanted some of the hedgepalms trimmed away from her fence so I went out with him and I left my door open."
Trusting the man at her front door. "Yeah he was very nice."
This Fort Myers woman who doesn't want to show her face, tells only WINK News, thieves stole her precious family heirlooms.
"The one necklace was my grandma's and it was over a hundred years old."
Here's how it went down, police say a man came to her door, offering landscaping services. They went around back and when that happened another crook walked through the front door, stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
"And when I came back the safe was gone, all my jewelry was gone, one of them was an antique, my wedding rings, my husbands wedding band and he's been dead for 9 years."
Down in Collier County, Naples Police are investigating a small incident. Both cases happened this week and a white van was used both times. While this victim is grateful it didn't end worse for her.
"Fortunately he didn't carry a gun."
Security expert Chris Knott tells WINK News always ask the person for identification, be suspicious when they want to go to the back of your home and if you do go out back lock all your doors.
"If it's in the background and you feel safe and secure enough to be in your back yard with the individual, you can tell them you'll meet them around back."
