LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A highly anticipated development in the area is breaking ground this morning. Pennsylvania based convenience store Wawa is coming to Fort Myers.

It will be built at the corner of Colonial Boulevard and Fowler Street.

Ground was broken this morning around 10:30, where the CEO joined local leaders to mark this occasion. Wawa has more than 600 stores primarily in the northeast, but came to Florida in July 2012 and has 44 stores throughout Central Florida, including Tampa and Orlando.

Wawa believes their new stores in Southwest Florida will be a hit as well, not just because of their above average convenience store cuisine, but because they believe their people make the difference.

"Our associates really make the Wawa experience very special. We tend to have a bond with our customers, more like family than customers, and it's really because of the warm relationship that our associates develop with their communities and their friends and neighbors that they serve," said Lori Bruc, with Wawa public relations.

Two more are set to open in spring 2015.
