COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The Dan A. Hughes Company has shut in the Collier Hogan 20-3H Well claiming it was an "operational decision by the company, and not due to any request or demand from any third party."

Last week, the company announced they would stop oil and natural gas exploration in Collier County.

In a statement to WINK News, a spokesperson for the Dan A. Hughes Company said, "The term does mean simply that the production valve has been closed and there will be no further production from the well pending a full evaluation going forward."

Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced it would sue the company for failing to comply with its list of demands.  Last December, FL DEP caught the company performing unauthorized, fracking-like activity at the well.  The state fined the company $25 thousand and made a list of demands the company had to comply with.  The Dan A. Hughes Company says it met the demands, but the DEP still was not satisfied.

A DEP spokeswoman says it will seek additional financial penalties against the company for those unauthorized activities at the well.  Meanwhile, company executives say they are evaluating the situation.?
