LEE COUNTY, Fla --- The stepfather accused in the death of a 3 year old boy wrapped so tight he couldn't breathe, has plead guilty to his crimes.
Douglas Garrigus has agreed to spend 10 years in prison for the death of Michael McMullen.
McMullen died after his babysitter, Donella Trainor, rolled him in six blankets, tied the ends, and placed him face down.
Garrigus admits to checking in on McMullen, but not letting him out of the wrap.
His attorney, Carolyn Garber, says Garrigus didn't step in because he was only allowed to have supervised contact with the child, and the babysitter was in charge.
Garber says, "As a young guy he felt he couldn't untie Michael or do anything of that sort, also that's his elders, he was listening to his elders as he was taught. You are talking about a 21 year old guy."
Donella Trainor is curently serving 20 years in prison.
The boy's grandmother, Gale Watkins, is awaiting trial for aggravated manslaughter.
Michael's mother was inside the courtroom. She did not wish to comment.
