CAPE CORAL, Fla.,- This week we have had 8 campers that are middle school aged (entering 6-8th grade). They have been teamed up with dogs aged 3 months to 7 years from Brooke’s Legacy for the week that were saved from kill shelters by Brooke’s legacy. Each camper has trained their dog in basic obedience, agility, nose work and more. The kids have worked on projects related to self esteem, problem solving, boundaries, and more.  Craft project each day include making scrapbooks of their camp dogs, adoption posters to help get their dog adopted during tomorrows events, making dogs beds out of sweatshirts, making dog toys, making dog treats, and more. Guest speakers throughout the week included canine officers from Cape Coral Police Department, guide dogs from Lighthouse, a trick dog trainer, and a groomer. Dog safety and communication are a constant focus during camp!

The kids and their parents are aware of the Brooke’s Legacy Story (attached is a letter her mom wrote to volunteers). The adoption event is 12-3pm at The Beach Dog, one of our sponsors. Anyone that shops at The Beach Dog during our event receives 10% off their entire purchase. The address is 3100 Del Prado Blvd. South in Cape Coral.

The collaboration of myself, owner at Delta Family Counseling, Kelly Legarreta (owner at Healing Pawsabilities) and the team at Brooke’s Legacy produces this one of a kinds camp that is promoted internationally!

We have one more camp that starts 7/21 for the Summer. That camp is for kids entering grades 2-5.
