ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 65-year-old woman was rescued off a cruise ship by a Coast Guard helicopter, 71 miles west of Boca Grande today.

The captain of the cruise ship, Carnival Paradise, notified Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector St. Petersburg, Florida at 10:46 p.m. Monday that the woman needed medical assistance due to chest pains.

The crew arrived on scene at approximately 1:00 a.m., hoisted the patient and the cruise ship nurse and transported them to Tampa General Hospital at approximately 1:50 a.m.
