FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police responded to a burglary in progress call at Wallace International Trucks, located at 2761 Edison Avenue, around 8:00 p.m. yesterday. The 911 caller advised two men were inside the fenced compound of the closed business.

Upon arrival, officers called out to the men, who fled in opposite directions inside the compound. One of the men was carrying a large spool of copper wiring and dropped it as he ran. Officers apprehended 45-year-old Chandler Lamar Stevenson and took him into custody.

Officers searched for the second subject, who was seen carrying the copper wiring. Officers found him hiding under the seats of a bus located on the compound a few minutes later. Gerald Alonzo Powell, 45, was taken into custody without further incident.

Both Powell and Stevenson were arrested for burglary and grand theft. Powell was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found a pipe commonly used to smoke crack-cocaine on his person.
