PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Cyclists hit the pavement Sunday in the Wheels and Wings V Bicycle Event in Punta Gorda. They'll try to (legally) break the speed limit, attempt to break the world record for the largest “Electric Slide in Spandex” dance, and bicycle in one of five rides. Now in its fifth year, the Peace River Riders Bicycle Club began the event with 82 participants in 2010 and saw 279 riders take part in 2013. They hope to continue the upward trend in 2014.

To accommodate all level of riders, Sunday morning’s bicycle routes included 15-, 32-, 50-, and 62-mile leisure rides as well as a 10-mile competitive Gentlemen’s Race. Following the rides, participants will have the opportunity to break the posted speed limit in Speed Trap Alley. This fun challenge will be supervised by the Punta Gorda Police Department who will issue “Speed Warning Tickets” suitable for framing to all successful participants.

At the conclusion of the cycling activities, Beef O’Brady’s will host participants for wings and beverages and will televise the Tour de France. Cyclists will also try to break the world record for the most people doing the Electric Slide in spandex.
