FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla - I mean, you could hear them coming down the street, so, and then you just heard this huge crash, and we came running outside.

Stacey Beerman says, living so close to Estero Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach, they can tell when a car is driving too fast.On Wednesday, June 28th, when she heard, what sounded like a speeding car, followed by a crash, she and her friends ran outside, expecting to see something horrific.

"One lady who was up in her room said she couldn't believe nobody was hurt," Beerman said.

Since it was dark out, all they could see was that a black car leveled a fire hydrant just outside the Hide Away Motel. Beerman and her friends half expected someone was seriously hurt.

"Nobody got out to see anything," she said. "They just literally turned around and high-tailed it out of here."

The driver of the black car started driving back the way he or she came. By this time, Beerman's fiance called police.

"They were going so fast," Beerman said. "We didn't want them to hit somebody down toward the square or do any other damage to anything else."

Beerman said there was another car with the group. Up to this point, theycan't find the cars nor the drivers. The damage they left behind cost the Town over $25,000, which is why police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
