LEE COUNTY, Fla.- It's your money, and if you live in the Bayshore Fire District in North Fort Myers, you just caught a break in fees.
Residents will not have to pay an extra fire assessment fee.
This comes after a measure was shot down in a vote Tuesday night.
Under the plan, homeowners would have had to nearly $600 each year.
The chief of the Bayshore Fire Department says he may have to lay off half his firefighters because of the rejected measure.
The same plan was going to be brought back in November, but after nearly 3 quarters of the votes opposed the plan, the chief doesn't believe thats a good idea.
North Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres Fire Departments are looking at proposing similiar plans.
