ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) - A northeast Florida man has been convicted of fatally shooting another man during a fight.
A St. Johns County jury found 24-year-old O'Shea Terrell Jackson guilty of second-degree murder. He faces a possible life sentence but could get less.
Authorities say Jackson shot 43-year-old Eric Brent Felder during a 2011 dispute in Hastings.
Jackson's mother, Madeline Nicole Jackson, testified that Felder had punched her earlier in the day and that her son was going to confront him. Jackson testified that he was holding a gun when Felder attacked him with a metal chair, but the gun only discharged when he tried to block a blow from the chair.
The St. Augustine Record reports that jurors opted against a first-degree murder conviction, which would have meant a mandatory life sentence.
